The March Madness Survivor Pool is back! The rules are listed below in detail for those who need a refresher or for those who are newcomers.
BASIC RULES
- The Buy In is 30 dollars per pick set
- You can only choose a team once in the tournament.
- On Day 1 of the tournament (Thursday) you choose 2 teams to win, and if they both win you advance to Day 2 (Friday). If 1 or both of your teams lose on Day 1 then you are out, or you can buy back in for 30 dollars, but you must choose 3 teams to win on Day 2 (Friday).
- Day 2 (Friday) you choose 2 teams to win (if you bought back in you must choose 3 teams to win). If all of your teams win you advance to Day 3 (Saturday). If 1, 2 or 3 of your teams lose on Day 2 you are out, or you can buy back in for 30 dollars, but you must choose 3 teams to win on Day 3 (Saturday). THIS IS THE SECOND AND FINAL BUY-BACK DAY!
- Day 3 (Saturday) you choose 1 team to win (if you bought back in you must choose 3 teams to win). If at least 1 of your teams loses then you are out and there are no more buybacks.
- Day 4 (Sunday) and every additional tournament day you choose 1 team to win until you no longer have any teams left to pick.
- If you run out of teams to choose, then you are eliminated on the day you cannot make a pick and it is treated as an incorrect pick for that day. The winner is the last person left with a correct pick when everyone else has made an incorrect pick. If multiple people make correct picks on the last day then the pot is split. If multiple people make incorrect picks on the same day (including people who ran out of teams to pick) and there is no correct pick then the pot is split.
All of the picks must be made via www.mmsurvivorpool.com or they do not count. Follow the instruction on the tab for each Day’s picks. Picks are due each day prior to the tip-off of the first game.
By submitting picks for Day 1 via the website you are signed up for the pool. Picks for Day 1 are due by tip-off of the first game of the day. Whatever you name your pick set, that will be what you need to submit picks as for the remainder of the pool. You can make multiple sets of picks, up to 2 per person, but be sure to identify which set of picks you are choosing for when submitting on the website. For example, you can name them Tim B-1 and Tim B-2 and going forward those are the names you keep for each pick set.
Follow the instructions on the Day tab, and all picks must be made prior to tip off of the first game of that Day.
PAYMENT must be made via: VENMO (@TimBozzone) or Paypal (TimBozzone@gmail.com)
There is a Google Docs spreadsheet that will become live to everyone after all picks have been submitted and updated. This is where everyone can see what teams were picked and who is still alive or eliminated. It is a locked spreadsheet and can only be viewed AFTER all picks have been submitted for the current day once we make the updates and we make it live. We will do our best to make it live as soon as we can after the games begin for the day.
Below are a more detailed set of rules and schedule of picks. If there are any specific questions, please let us know and we will address them with everyone in the pool.
COMPLETE RULES
YOU CAN ONLY CHOOSE A TEAM ONCE DURING THE ENTIRE TOURNAMENT. Example, if you choose Duke on the first day you cannot choose Duke anymore for any other day even if you buy back.
The Buy In is 30 dollars per pick set, and you are limited to making 2 sets of picks per person. There are two potential buy backs for 30 dollars each, so the most you pay per pick set is 90 dollars.
All picks must be made via www.mmsurvivorpool.com or they do not count. Payment for all pick sets and buy backs must be made via: Venmo (@TimBozzone) or PayPal (TimBozzone@gmail.com).
The winner will be determined by the last person with a pick to make. If there is only 1 person left before the final day, then that person wins. If there are multiple people remaining at the end of the tournament, or if the final people all go out on the same day, then they split the pot. If you run out of teams to pick, then you are eliminated on the day that you have no teams left to choose.
Buy Backs
There are 2 days for buy backs- after Day 1 and after Day 2. Each time you buy back you owe 30 dollars and you have to make 3 picks for that day’s games only.
Each buy back is 30 dollars, so if you lose at least one game on Day 1, you can buy back in on Day 2 for 30 dollars, and if you lose at least one game on Day 2 you can buy back in on Day 3 for 30 dollars. The total amount you can spend is 90 dollars on each set of picks. The maximum number of pick sets per person is 2.
If you bought back in on either of the 2 buy back days (Day 2 or Day 3) you CANNOT pick a team you already picked. Whether you buy back in or did not, you cannot choose a team more than once.
You only choose 3 teams to win on your buy back day. If you buy back in after Day 1, you choose 3 teams to win on Day 2. If all 3 win then you choose 1 team to win on Day 3 and continue in the pool like everyone else. If you buy back in after Day 2, you choose 3 teams to win on Day 3. If all 3 win then you choose 1 team to win on Day 4 and continue in the pool like everyone else.
We will not be participating in making picks on the play in games. The picks schedule and daily rules are below.
Picks are due prior to tip-off of the first game of each day. Each pick is time stamped through the website and any pick made after the first tip-off of the game each day, will not be accepted. If you make more picks than required, we will only include the number of needed picks for that day by alphabetical order. If you make less picks than required that will count as a loss for the day and you cannot buy back in for that pick set. Any questions, just ask and we will address them with everyone.
